Michael Pineda shines as Seattle Mariners tie Cleveland Indians 5-5 – MLB Spring Season Review
Michael Pineda put in a decent performance as he struck-out three to help the Seattle Mariners tie it up against the Cleveland Indians 5-5 in their Cactus League encounter on Friday, March 11 at Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona.
Pineda looked good during the game against the Indians. The Mariners were happy with his performance as the hard-work has paid off with his game-day performance. Pineda did a good job as he managed to restrict the Indians’ offence and only allowed two runs.
On the other hand, Mitch Talbot of Cleveland has an average day with the ball, as he allowed five hits in his three innings pitched. Talbot seemed to be struggling throughout his time on the mound.
Mariners’ Matt Tuiasosopo got two decent hits as Josh Wilson managed to get two RBIs. Asdrubal Cabrera got a tremendous home-run for Cleveland as Austin Kearns and Adam Everett got in two hits.
Both Seattle and Cleveland will be a little disappointed that they were unable to grab a win and had to settle with a tie ballgame. However, being that this the spring session, the teams understand the main importance of having their young players get the
opportunity to play against quality opposition and get some much needed match practice in before the tough regular season starts.
Spring Training gives the teams a good opportunity to finalise their pitching and batting line-ups. The regular season rotations are developed as each team discovers their strengths and potential weaknesses before the crucial regular season begins.
Both teams are looking fairly strong so far in the spring session. The Mariners looked aggressive as the Indians have the depth of players to handle most situations during the game. Although the game ended in a tie, it was the performance of Pineda that
caught some attention.
Mariners’ pitching coach Carl Willis looked pleased with Pineda’s performance and said, "He looked good again. He got into a little bit of a rush, which caused him to leave the ball up in the zone. But he stayed with it and didn't get all flustered. He's
got a big fastball and he's still in the mix. We've got some decisions to make."
It will be interesting to see how much confidence both teams managed to gain from the game as it ended with a tie. The Mariners will be looking to improve their performance in their next match-up during the spring session to give a chance to some of their
younger players to display their talents and possibly get selected for a spot in the final line-up. The Indians managed to put up a good fight, as they worked well as a team and seem to have the depth of players to take them far into the regular season.
