Michael Pineda working on his weakness ahead of Spring Training – MLB News
Michael Pineda is one of the most talked about players in New York Yankees right now. General Manager Brian Cashman acquired the flame throwing Pineda last month to strengthen Yankees’ pitching line up. Undoubtedly, the big right handed pitcher will have a key role to play for Yankees in the upcoming season.
According to a reputed baseball website, Pineda has already started to train with Yankees’ coaching staff. On Wednesday, he showed up early at the Yankees’ training facility to run sprints with his team-mates. He also talked to media about his inspirations and targets for Spring Training. Pineda loves to win and he has a great personality.
In addition to his superb throwing abilities, the 23-year-old has a great learning attitude, which makes him a special player to have in the team. He is also working hard on his weaknesses including his slider and fastball.
"I’m excited because this is my first day practicing with the New York Yankees," Pineda said as he proudly brushed the NY on the chest of his warm-up shirt. "I had good work today, good running, lots of good work."
"The Yankees are a good team, they have lots of good players," he further added. "It felt good. My mother was excited because she has lots of family in New York and she never had come to America and now she is coming to New York. The whole family is excited."
Pineda was traded for Jesus Montero from Seattle Mariners earlier this year. The fans are also waiting to see him perform in the ballpark. His main role will be to assist Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia, who was the lone warrior in the Yankees’ pitching line-up last season. Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman will be expecting him to help the team reach the World Series.
Pineda produced some magical performances last season. His 8-6 win-loss record with a decent 3.03 ERA in the first half of 2011 season goes on to suggest that he has immense potential. If he can stay out of controversies and concentrate on his game play, he will prove to be an asset for Cashman’s side.
