Michael Savage's comments about autism?

After hearing about this today, i have never felt more appalled in my life.

I work with children who have various disabilities ranging from autism to down syndrome and many others.

I heard a lot of people are defending his comment saying if you look at the stats you can see that it used to be 1 in ever 1000 kids diagnosed now it's 1 in every 150, but have you ever considered- 1. the population is growing. OR there has yet to been discovered something that causes autism. Ever consider that a medication is being administered to parents that is causing autism in a child? or that autism is more widely known about now, and people are beginning to recognize the sign.

His comments disgust me and I think he should be fired. It's obvious he has never cared for an autistic child. They are great kids who need help, not spoiled brats as he claims. & I am appalled how many people are taking his side on this issue.

  1. At the risk of sounding like a fanatic of freedom, at least we have free speech.  Even if you disagree with his statements, at least he has the freedom to say them and you have the right to disagree with them.  Also, you have the right, no, you have the duty to change the radio dial if you find such comments offensive.

So, if someone says something you disagree with you want them fired no matter what because you find their comments distasteful and personally offensive?  I find some actions,  behaviors, and comments from people with whom I work to be offensive.  Should I demand they be fired immediately?

  2. Hes a PhD in Botany..he knows food, nutrition etc.....he was speaking of the ones who ARE faking it and he knows that there are far to many Rx's being let for the so called Ritalin generation...hes also a very good man...you need to lighten up

  3. His rating must have been down, he fixed that problem!

I doubt if he believes it himself, or hes a real A**hole

and don't listen to that "misdiagnosed or faking" excuse he's using. I was hateful

  4. He was talking about kids that are misdiagnosed or faking.

  5. His coments were mainly to insult the pharmaceutical companies that get richer with each so-called new case of autism.

Many children are misdiagnosed with autism.

  6. 246.

  7. Typical of those who claim to 'care' so much about others to demand that someone lose their job for comments those 'caring' people disagree with.

One person in one fifty has autism?  Over-diagnosis.  Same thing with ADD/ADHD.

Medical conditions are diagnosed at greater rates than in the past because the physiology of the body is much better understood and the technology now exists to find what once could not be found.  Understanding the mind is nowhere near as evolved as understanding the body and thusly,  mental and/or developmental disorders that were previously unknown in large numbers have conveniently become the catch-all for those wanting an easy way to explain what they can't otherwise.   This is not to dismiss the suffering of individuals with real problems and their families, but this is plain overblown hysteria.

Savage has earned several masters degrees in the medical field and has the educational background to have some idea of what he is talking about.  His informed opinion is just as valid as the opinions of those who will be on the opposite side.

But we can't have that.  We have to shut them up.

  8. I fully agree. Disgusting is too mild a word. I have also worked with children with autism.  So I know the reality.

Michael  Savage certainly lives up to his name. He is a crude, ignorant bigot.  What is even more disgusting is that there are some equally ignorant and bigoted trash out there trying to excuse his remarks.

I have noticed--at least here on Y/A--that all these jerks are also all "neocons." Figures.

  9. Anything Michael Savage says should come with a warning label:  "Listening to Michael Savage is harmful to your reasoning ability."  He's a very disturbed and angry man.
