Michael Schumacher: Mercedes’ rivals yet to show their true colours – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has recently stated that he is not getting ‘carried away’ by his headlining performance at the 4th day of testing in Barcelona where he scored the fastest time of the week as he believes that his team’s rivals
are yet to show their ‘true colours.’
Michael scored the fastest time of the week using a low-fuel load and it is believed that neither Red Bull Racing Team, Ferrari nor McLaren have scored any lap times using a low-fuel load up until now during the final pre-season test session.
This was the first time that the seven-time world champion got to test the Mercedes W02 with the latest specs. His teammate on the other hand was looking pretty good as well as he scored the 3rd fastest time of the session up until now. As a result,
the team is confident that its new exhaust system, floor and front will enable the team to perform alongside the top running teams but Schumacher is still not confident enough.
“We've been looking good today and have had a good three days. We are developing the car step-by-step. The main issue that we have here at the test is trying to find the right balance and optimising the car's performance, and that has worked pretty well,”
he told reporters in the Barcelona paddock.
He added that the team is obviously looking forward to the season opening race that is expected to take place in Australia on March 27, 2011, but he is not sure that the rest of the teams have showed their true pace up until now unlike Mercedes.
“All I can say is that we have seen that our package works here reasonably well. But whether everybody has shown their true potential is something we will find out in Australia,” Schumacher responded when asked if the Mercedes was now in the top three.
Since both of the drivers got almost equal time on track at the 4th day of testing in Barcelona, both of the drivers are confident about their 2011 run and the team is going to ensure that they maintain their pace keeping reliability of the car
in mind as well.
Rosberg stated that the team is pretty much done with most of the developments of the car and he is pleased with the improvements the team has made to the Mercedes W02.
However, it would be interesting to see how each team performs at the season opening race in Australia.
