Michael Schumacher: Not a single positive to take from Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes’ Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher has stated that his race was over right from the start of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Schumacher stated some mechanical problems in his car and commented that nothing was there to learn from Monte Carlo circuit in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The German started the race from fifth position but ended in a dreadful manner when his car stopped on the pit-lane entrance.
He was utterly disappointed by the race and stated that there was nothing positive to take from the race.
“Unfortunately, there are not a lot of positives we will be able to take away from this race, at the end, there was a fire inside the airbox and the car simply stopped, but the beginning of the race was not satisfying either,” commented Schumacher.
The German, who is six-time winner of the Monaco Grand prix, had a bad start to the race and then lost some early advantage to the front running drivers when McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton damaged his car.
He explained, “I had a rendezvous with Lewis at Turn One which left my front wing not working properly, so I lost downforce which also handicapped my tyres. That meant we had to stop much earlier than we had planned and, from then onwards, the race was obviously
compromised.”
This was second time in the 2011 season that Schumacher has not finished the race. Although he was able to protect his car from crashes, yet mechanical problems halted his run.
The German only managed 32 laps of the race and was potentially looking at some points when his car stopped entering the pit lane.
His teammate Nico Rosberg also did not managed to finish among points and ended the race two laps down to the front running drivers.
Overall, Mercedes have lost some ground to the Renault team in the constructors’ championship and most probably, they are out of the championship battle.
The season continues with Canadian Grand Prix in June and Mercedes will be hoping to at least try to finish amongst points.
