Michael Schumacher: Not running in Q3 was a risk worth taking – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has said that the decision of not running in the qualifying round 3 of the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix was a risk worth taking for him.
Schumacher did not take part in qualifying round 3 on Saturday, September 24, at the Marina Bay street circuit in order to save the sets of supersoft tyres for Sunday’s race.
Talking to reporters, the seven-time world champion commented, “As we all know from the past, a lot of incidents can happen during the Singapore Grand Prix, so I will certainly go for any opportunity which might occur. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed
for Sebastian to clinch his second world title here tomorrow.”
The 42-year-old driver participated in Q1 and Q2 on Saturday and after running in both the sessions, he secured his eighth position for Sunday’s race at the Marina Bay street circuit.
On the other hand, his teammate Nico Rosberg mentioned that he is looking forward to score points and getting best possible position in the Singapore Grand Prix following his successful qualifying round.
The German had a good stint in Q3 at Singapore. After a fight with Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, he ended his Qualifying run in the seventh spot ahead of his teammate Schumacher.
Rosberg stated, “Being on the clean side at the grid gives me a good position for the start, so I will try to make up positions there and score some good points. I think it will be an exciting race here with all the new things like DRS and the Pirelli tyres.”
Both Mercedes drivers Rosberg and Schumacher will start their 2011 Singapore Grand Prix from the seventh and eighth place respectively on the opening grid.
Let’s see whether Schumacher finishes the Singapore race weekend in the points following his positive results in the last couple of races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
