Michael Schumacher: We are not surprised after Friday practice sessions of Singapore GP – Formula 1
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has recently stated that the team did not face any big surprises at the Marina Bay this past Friday during the practice sessions for the Singapore Grand Prix.
The Singapore Grand Prix is a night race which takes place at a street circuit and since Mercedes GP has been performing quite well since the past couple of weekends, they are hoping for a pretty good result this weekend as well.
“As usual on these types of circuits, the track is pretty slippery and provides low grip. It was not really useful therefore that the practice time was cut, because we had a big programme to work on. But then, it was what it was, so we made the best out
of it,” said Schumacher.
Mercedes GP are going really well this year quite surprisingly as compared to Lotus Renault GP as they are currently in 4th place in the constructors’ standings.
Michael Schumacher scored his best performance of the year this past weekend at the Italian Grand Prix which has also uplifted the team’s hopes for the remaining 6 races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The seven-time world champion claims that overall, the Singapore Grand Prix weekend cannot be predicted yet as the team is yet to evaluate the data it obtained during the practice sessions.
“For the rest, it is too early to say as we did not have the time yet to analyse the practice sessions fully. I like the race here; it is a bit like the modern Monaco, very exciting with more run-off areas,” he said.
Nevertheless, it is going to be an entertaining race as Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel might seal the drivers’ title this weekend if he wins the race ahead of McLaren and Ferrari at the Marina Bay.
