Michael Schumacher accepts his mistake in the collision with Vitaly Petrov at the Turkish Grand Prix
The 7 time Formula 1 world champion has recently stated that he accepts the fact that it was his mistake for the collision of his Mercedes with Vitaly Petrov’s Renault at the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday, May 8th, at the Istanbul Park Circuit,
outside Istanbul.
“The incident with Petrov kind of dictated my race: we were very close and I was surprised that we touched but it was mostly my mistake”, said Schumacher.
The two cars collided while heading towards turn 12 as Schumacher tried to overtake Petrov but failed miserably.
It was quite an unnecessary attempt by Schumacher during the early stages of the race, before lap 10, and as a result, Michael’s car got damaged severely, forcing him to make a pit stop.
The German damaged his front wing during this bizarre overtaking manoeuvre which ruined the strategy of his race as well. Vitaly was squeezed due to under-breaking.
Hence, the two cars collided and it seemed that the 7 time world champion was trying to push the Russian driver off the track in order to gain his track position.
“A lot of fighting and action today, and that was probably the positive part of my race. Obviously I am not very happy with my weekend, but I'm responsible myself for the result”, he said.
He added that since he had to make such an early stop, he had to rely on his strategy to complete the race well.
However, Schumacher was out of the limelight throughout the weekend since his teammate, Nico Rosberg, has been performing amazingly well, qualifying in 3rd place and finishing the race in 5th.
“What we can take away from this weekend in Turkey is that we have confirmed our good trend and we still have things to come to help us deliver more of our potential”, Schumacher added.
Consequently, Michael scored a pointless finish behind Felipe Massa’s Ferrari in 12th place.
It now seems that the team is going to try its best to recover from this deficit, enabling both its drivers to perform as well as each other in order to score consistent points each weekend.
