Michael Schumacher admits Mercedes GP cannot become a race winning team before next season
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher has recently admitted that his team is struggling to perform up to its expectations and it is going to take them some time to become a race-winning team.
“We are in the process of building something new. I am sure that Ross and I know how things are built internally and the approach of this team is in the right direction. It takes time. Red Bull needed four or five years. With Ferrari that period lasted for
five years. We cannot play with some magic and do it in half a year,” he said.
As a result, Michael believes that the team is still working on its 2011 car but they are going to have to be patient in order to score race-winning performances.
“We're working on it. And everything that we put in now could be very important for next year. We are losing time with the problems we have while the others make progress. So we have to solve it this year or we will drag them (the problems) into next season,”
Schumacher said.
Mercedes used to be known as Brawn GP back in 2009 which was the team’s debut Formula 1 season and quite surprisingly, the team won the championship in its first year in the sport.
Back then, Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button were the two drivers of the team but after the team’s championship winning performance, Button joined McLaren while Barrichello joined Williams as a result of which, Mercedes signed Nico Rosberg and Michael
Schumacher.
Michael made his return with the team back in 2010 but unfortunately, the team was unable to repeat its championship winning performance or score good results.
Schumacher has not secured a single podium position since his return while his teammate Nico Rosberg has been performing competitively better than the seven-time world champion even though he has also been unable to score a single podium up until now in
the ongoing 2011 season.
