Michael Schumacher aims for nothing more than a win in 2011
The 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher had the most pathetic seasons of his life this year as he finished in 9th place behind his teammate Nico Rosberg who finished in 7th place in the drivers’ standings. Nico Rosberg has proved
that if he is provided with a better car, he is a much better driver than Michael Schumacher now and according to some rumours, it is expected that Mercedes will be back on the top alongside McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull.
Let’s face it, Michael might be able to pull it off once again in 2011 but the amount of criticism he received this year was not worth it at all. The German legion retired from the sport in 2006 after disappointingly losing to Fernando Alonso twice in a
row but Michael clearly put up a decent fight against the Spaniard and retired at the best possible moment. It seemed that Michael made a sensible decision but we can expect him to do anything now?
The German driver was unable to score a single podium after returning to the sport this year but he claims that since his team is flourishing and they are coming up with a good package for 2011, he might get back to the top once again and compete against
the top running drivers yet again.
We would have to agree with Michael on this as he clearly still has the pace that he used to have before but if he really is the best driver, one has to wonder that he should have gotten used to the car that was provided to him this year and at least perform
better than Nico Rosberg. If Nico can get used to the 2010 Mercedes car, why can’t Michael? If most of the 24 drivers on the grid can get used to the tyre compound of 2010, why can’t Michael?
“We are clearly in a better situation now because of the immense support from Mercedes. But we cannot presume to think that we will be fighting for the championship. We will make a big leap forward and - if all goes well - win races,” Schumacher told media.
He has constantly been stating that the problems he was facing cannot be understood by anyone. Yes, we cannot understand it Michael.....We clearly can’t.
“In retrospect, there were things; my floor was burned because of the exhaust being too hot, or the F-duct working in places where it should not. There were many [issues], resulting from the fact that we are in a restructuring phase but we still wanted to
go for the title,” he added.
Clearly, the 7-time world champion wants his team to spoon feed him without him doing any of the thinking work the team does. It would be entertaining to see how Michael performs next year though. If he fails, that would be one of the million most embarrassing
moments Schumacher has had to go through in his almost 18 year old career.
“I prefer to speak inside the team, and I am convinced that in 2011 the problems will exist no more. The car was a compromise. With the tyre, it was difficult for me to drive how I wanted to,” said the German.
