Michael Schumacher believes Mercedes will perform better at Hockenheim – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher says he is very confident of Mercedes being competitive at the German Grand Prix over the coming weekend.
The British Grand Prix was a somewhat disappointing race for Mercedes as it lacked pace and was not able to challenge the top teams. The reasons the team revealed were largely blamed on the setup of the car.
Schumacher also said later that the team was prepared for a wet race which was more suitable to the Mercedes car and they could not get a better performance out of the car as the Silverstone track was not suited to the W03.
Schumacher says the Hockenheim circuit will suit the car perfectly and he is confident that they will be able to get the desired results from the race.
“The most difficult race we have behind us, which was Silverstone,” said Schumacher. “Hockenheim will suit our car much more naturally. Obviously, I'm a lot more optimistic.”
He added that if one or two of the Mercedes drivers can be at the podium in front of their home crowd it will be the perfect situation for them.
Schumacher’s team-mate and countryman has said that he does not feel that the season has gone off the way he wanted it to. The team has to now extract the maximum from the car in order get improved results for the remainder of the season.
Rosberg was able to claim his maiden victory in the current season at the Chinese Grand Prix but since has not been able to repeat his performance. He felt that he will be able to manage the tyres better at Hockenheim than he did at the British GP where
he was not able to score any points.
“We haven't maximised what we had in the last few races and Silverstone didn't really suit our car,” he said. “So it is maybe not the right picture. I still think we have a good car and I still think if conditions suit us and we get a grip on the tyres here
in Hockenheim, which should suit our car a lot better, we should be able to do a much better result.”
