Michael Schumacher believes Sebastian Vettel may join Ferrari in future – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher believes that Sebastian Vettel, who is currently in Red Bull Racing, may join Ferrari in the future as a new challenge.
Vettel has been linked with the Scarlet team as a potential replacement of their driver, Felipe Massa who struggled in the opening few grands prix of the current season. However, the president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo discharged all the speculations
in this regard and said that they will never have two world champions in the team at the same time.
“I've always said that I don't want two roosters in the hen-house,” Montezemolo told Italy's Rai radio. “I don't like that and it creates instability in the team. [I would] rather two drivers who race for Ferrari and not for themselves. I don't
want problems and rivalries, which we didn't have between Schumacher and Irvine, between Schumacher and Barrichello, between Alonso and Massa or Massa and Schumi or Massa and Raikkonen.”
Furthermore, Montezemolo has recently renewed Massa’s contract for the next season and has completely dismissed all the rumours regarding the replacement of the Brazilian driver.
On the other hand, the defending champion has recently said that he has developed a very good relationship with everyone at Milton Keynes based team and he can’t imagine leaving it. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to note that earlier this season, the
veteran German driver expressed that he would like to race with the Italian team which is the most successful team in the history of F1.
The seven-time world champion has said that he doesn’t know what will happen in the coming years. Nevertheless, he said that the defending champion may accepts a new challenge to join Ferrari in the future.
“Seb speaks in high tones about Ferrari, but I don’t know what the future holds,” Schumacher said.
“At some point, it may be that he is looking for a new challenge too,” he added.
At present, the 25-year-old is leading the drivers’ championship and is 6 points ahead of his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Besides, he is the most favourite title contender in this year’s championship and it will be interesting to see how he performs
in the remainder of the season.
