Michael Schumacher believes rainy conditions would have helped in Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher believes that rainy conditions would have helped in achieving better results in 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Schumacher showed an inspiring performance in the qualifying of the British GP on wet track and secured third place in the grid. However, he struggled during the race and could not convert his competitive grid position into a podium finish and came seventh.
Although, he said that they could have done better if it had rained as the dry conditions didn’t quite suit their car W03. Nonetheless, he expressed that he is very much pleased with his result as he was able to score some reasonable points for his team.
“We achieved what was possible for us today, and we have to be satisfied with that,” Schumacher said.” We were pretty competitive towards the end of the race, but overall we knew that the characteristics of this circuit wouldn't suit us in normal conditions
- we definitely could have done better in the wet. Even so, we managed to score a few points, which can be important for the team.”
The seven-time world champion has struggled with finding his true pace in the first seven races of the season. Nonetheless, he made an impressive comeback in the European GP in which he secured a striking third podium finish after setting off from 12th
place in the grid.
Furthermore, he said that he is confidently looking forward to perform well in the German GP which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
“Our attention now turns to Hockenheim, our next home circuit, where things should look better in any case. I can only say to all motorsport fans that we are counting on your support,” he said.
The record championship holder is currently standing at 12th place in the drivers’ championship with 23 points along with Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Additionally, he is ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber and behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
Over and above, it will be very interesting to see how the veteran German driver performs in the season ahead.
