Michael Schumacher believes wet conditions are going to be helpful – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher says he wants a wet British Grand Prix this weekend.
Schumacher had his first podium finish at the European Grand Prix two weeks ago since his comeback to the sport.
It seems that it has given him a confidence boost as he prepares for the Silverstone race. Weather conditions are looking gloomy for the race but such conditions suit the seven-time champion.
Schumacher has excelled in rainy conditions in his career, arguably one of his greatest victories and he believes that a wet race would increase his chances of another podium finish.
Although earlier in the season at the Malaysian Grand Prix, rainy condition did not benefit the Mercedes team as both Schumacher and his teammate Nico Rosberg struggled for race pace. Since then, the team has had quite a few update packages introduced and
Schumacher hopes that it is going to be beneficial for him.
“It's certainly an opportunity - that is clear. It is probably more of an opportunity than having a clear and dry race for us,” he said.
Schumacher admitted that the Malaysian GP was not a good race for him but insisted that it was more due to the setup of the car at that point that got unfavourable results for the team.
Rain will prove how well the team has built a strong base to challenge in the season.
“We didn't have a good moment going back to Malaysia where it was wet and we didn't look too strong. But I think we understood the reason for that, as much as we understood in Australia - in a dry race - why we had not been strong. Rain here will be a good
opportunity to prove [if we are strong or not] and therefore I would welcome a bit of rain at the right moment in time,” added the German.
It will be interesting to see how Schumacher fares in the race and the Saturday practice run will give a better picture of how well the car is suited to rainy conditions.
