Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher believes that the wet conditions supported him to secure third grid position for 2012 German Grand Prix held at Hockenheimring.
Schumacher showed an impressive pace during the final qualifying session at Hockenheim and set the fourth fastest lap time of 1 minute and 42.459 seconds ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India.
Although, he followed Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing who came third in the timesheets. However, he will take a start from the third grid slot as the Aussie has to face five-place penalty because of his unscheduled gearbox change.
The record championship holder admitted that the rainy conditions suit their car W03. Nevertheless, he also said that they have got the potential to perform well in both dry and wet circumstances.
In addition, he said that they are aiming to maximise the given opportunities and are positively looking forward to attain competitive results in the approaching race.
“I think it's obvious that in the wet conditions we look more strong than we do in dry conditions,” Schumacher said, “Although if you look at certain pace in the dry we don't look too unreasonable either because I don't think it worked out perfectly well
in traffic for myself in Q1, but Nico time wasn't too bad at that time. So for tomorrow definitely we will look better than we had been looking in Silverstone; there's no doubt about this. Do we look good enough to keep our position, to look forwards or do
we go backwards? Open question.”
In addition, he said that they faced some issue during Q1 concerning the car’s setup. Nonetheless, he said that they were successful in resolving the problem and is aiming to perform well in the forthcoming race.
At present, the seven-time world champion is standing at 12th place in the drivers’ championship with 23 points along with Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Besides, he is ahead of Kamui Kobayashi and is behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
