Michael Schumacher blames himself for uncompetitive last three seasons – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has said that he blames himself for his uncompetitive last three seasons rather than his team.
Schumacher returned to F1 in 2010 with highest hopes to win the world championship title but unfortunately he has not been able to achieve success. Moreover, he was completely outclassed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg during the last two years and has only
secured one podium finish in the current season until now.
It will be important to mention that although the Brackley based team had the most successful pre-season testing programme this year, conversely, they have faced many technical difficulties and tyre management issues which have hindered the performance of
their drivers in the season so far.
Therefore, Mercedes boss, Dieter Zetsche has recently asserted that the seven-time world champion has struggled because they have not been able to provide him a competent car.
On the other hand, the record championship holder has said that it is his fault that he has not achieved what he had planned for and took the responsibility instead of blaming his team.
“As racing drivers, we are independent of the cars,” Schumacher said in an interview with Die Welt. “The fact things didn't go as well for me as planned is my fault, not that of the team.”
In addition, he said that he has not accomplished what he wanted to after his return to the sport. Nevertheless, he expressed that he is not feeling upset as he has achieved so much in his career until now and is very happy with it.
“What is important though is to be able to look in the mirror and be able to say that I gave all I had. And I can do that. I can leave Formula One with my head held high. My mission is over, so I can go back to the happy period of my life which I enjoyed
during my first retirement,” he added.
The veteran German driver is going to retire at the end of this season and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the remaining four grands prix.
