Michael Schumacher can extend his contract post 2012: Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who returned to Formula 1 in 2010 after a three-year break might not leave the sport anytime soon.
It is being speculated that he can extend his contract after it expires in 2012. His team, Mercedes GP have not ruled out such reports either.
Norbert Haug, Mercedes’ competition director said the team will not mind having the seven-time world champion for another season as well.
“If Michael wants it and we can agree on a right price -- with pleasure,” confirmed Haug.
The German was unable to give a promising performance in 2010 after his return to the sport and received a lot of criticism for his below par show.
Nevertheless, it is expected that Mercedes GP are going to be one of the top running teams of the 2011 Formula 1 season, as their new car (Mercedes W02) is very reliable and fast.
The team scored some very good results during the pre-season test sessions and they claim that they are aiming for both the titles in the new season.
According to Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn, the team is satisfied with its new car especially after the new major upgrade they applied to it at the final pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona recently.
Michael scored the fastest lap of the week on the 4th day of testing as a result and the team is now even more confident about its 2011 run.
“Michael looks really strong. He could surprise some people this year,” admitted team boss Ross Brawn.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is expected to commence on 27 March, 2011 in Australia and it is expected that Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes GP are going to be the top teams of the week as McLaren are still struggling with their new car and require some
more time to optimize it.
