Michael Schumacher celebrates his 42nd birthday today
Michael Schumacher finally has a reason to celebrate. Today, Jan 3rd, 2011 marks 42nd birthday of the racing icon. Team Mercedes GP and his innumerable fans celebrate the day with the seven-time World Champion and wish him a prosperous
and happy life ahead.
After having faced a very tough 2010 Formula One season, the driver is ready to enter next year of his life and his career with a lot of hope and optimism. Schumacher is statistically the most successful racer ever in the history of Formula One. He was born
in Hürth-Hermülheim, Germany in 1969, and at a very small age proved his love for racing.
After having participated in several junior series, he entered in Formula One in 1991 at the age of 22. Although his debut season saw him perform in only six races, replacing a Jordan driver first and then driving behind the wheel of Benetton; these few
races were enough for him to prove his mettle on the track. Having sealed his place at Benetton, the driver was able to bag the first championship of his career only after his third complete season with the sport. The victory was followed by a second, consecutive
championship in1995.
The then two-time World Champion impressed everyone immensely on the track and was picked up by the iconic racing team, Ferrari in 1996. With the Italian squad, the driver saw four struggling seasons before he was able to rise to glory. He narrowly missed
the championships during the first four seasons as he once finished at third place while he wrapped up the season at second place twice. In year 1999 he only won 2 races, concluding the season at 5th place. However, this was the last of his winless
seasons as luck was waiting to shower on him.
The start of the new millennium was rewarding for the driver. With 9 race wins, 12 podiums and 9 pole positions, the driver bagged the third title of his career in 2000. This was followed by another phenomenal title win in 2001, when he snatched 9 victories
totalling a score of 123 points. This was just the start, as Schumi took over the sport and everyone got used to seeing the German leading races and bagging championships. He soon became famous as “master of rainy tracks” and was believed to know the magic
of pulling rabbits out of his hat when required. From 2000 to 2004 nobody but Schumacher was seen winning poles, podiums, races and championships.
Although, his consecutive victory run was broken off by of Fernando Alonso, in 2005 and 2006, but by that time the iconic driver was already successful in winning 91 Grands Prix and 7 championships, a record yet to be broken in the years to come.
Today, as the racing sensation celebrates his 42nd birthday, his fans hope to see him conquer the 2011 Formula One season.  The German returned to the track in 2010 after 3 years, as he had announced retirement at the start of 2007. However, he
failed to bag even a single race win or podium all through the year, yet he is willing to stay and prove once again that he is the best. The hype and fanfare created at the return of the driver last year was immense, but as the season ended many believed that
the comeback decision of the German only damaged his legacy. However, the determined driver believes that he would definitely win another championship before his 3-year contract ends with Mercedes GP team.
So far, the driver has proved his worth in the past, and his fans are eagerly waiting for the same, as the driver enters the 42nd year of his life.
