Michael Schumacher claims Jenson Button is a phenomenal talent – Formula 1 news
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher has termed Jenson Button of McLaren-Mercedes as a phenomenal talent.
Schumacher claims that Button is still performing really well despite the fact that he might not be performing at his full limit and he might have lost some performance compared to his peak time.
“Even if maybe he is two percent below the level of his peak, he (Button) is still a phenomenal talent,” said Schumacher, according to SID news agency.
Other than that, the German driver believes that the 2009 world champion still has the ability to challenge for world championship once again as he still has the potential but is not utilising it in the right way.
“He can fight for the World Championship again in the right car,” he reportedly told the fashion magazine Vogue.
Button has been struggling to perform this year as he went through a couple of retirements. As a result, he completely lost track of the championship and had to get on with the championship with a generic approach.
Schumacher on the other hand had a stunning race at the Italian Grand Prix as he finished in 5th place after going through a long battle with Lewis Hamilton during the race.
Jenson Button was right behind the two drivers and he had a pretty good view of the situation as a result of which his criticism for Schumacher’s performance at Monza was taken quite seriously.
“He was moving across to the left and then to the right, which I don't think was all that bright. One move (is allowed). Maybe he has just lost his memory,” said Button, according to the Sun.
Despite the fact that Button criticised the 42-year-old driver recently, he was still praised by Schumacher which is a very good sign.
Mercedes GP have been struggling to perform since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season despite the fact that they were aiming for race wins this year. They now claim that they will not rest until they become a race winning team.
