Michael Schumacher claims pole for 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has successfully claimed the pole for 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
The seven-time world champion set the fastest lap time of 1 minute and 14.301 seconds in the qualifying of Monaco GP. However, it will be important to mention that the record championship holder has to face five-place grid penalty due to his collision with
Bruno Senna of Williams in the last race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. Therefore, he will set off from 6th grid position on the race day.
The veteran German driver stayed ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing who set the second best time of 1 minute and 14.381 seconds but he will start the race from the front of the grid. The Australian driver was followed Schumacher’s teammate, Nico Rosberg
who came 3rd in the timesheets with his quickest time of 1 minute and 14.448 seconds.
Rosberg remained ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who set the fourth best time in the qualifying and will start the race from third place in the grid. The British driver was followed by Romain Grosjean of Lotus who set the fifth best time of 1 minute and
14.639 seconds.
The French driver was followed by Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who set the sixth best time of 1 minute and 14.948 seconds. However, the Spaniard will begin the race from fifth grid position.
Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa set the 7th fastest time of 1 minute and 15.049 seconds and stayed ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who stood at 8th place in the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 15.199 seconds.
Pastor Maldonado of Williams set the 9th best time of 1 minute and 15.245 seconds. Unfortunately, the Venezuelan will have to face a ten-place grid penalty due to his clash with Sergio Perez of Sauber in FP3.
Sebastian Vettel came 10th in the qualifying and he did not set any time in Q3 regardless of the fact that he has performed well on Monaco circuit in the last couple of years. Nevertheless, he will start the race from 9th grid position.
The defending champion was followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who came 11th on the charts with his quickest time of 1 minute and 15.421 seconds.
Hulkenberg remained ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who set the 12th best time of 1 minute and 15.508 seconds in the qualifying.
The Japanese driver was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren who with his fastest time of 1 minute and 15.536 seconds came 13th and will start the race from 12th grid position. Furthermore, Button stayed ahead of Bruno Senna of Williams who was followed
by Paul di Resta of Force India.
