Michael Schumacher claims that he will compete for the title in 2011
The seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher recently stated that he believes that he has the potential to compete for the titles and since he has a very good car for the 2011 Formula 1 season, he is going to be one of the major contenders for the title.
Recently, Fernando Alonso stated at Ferrari’s annual media event “Wrooom” that Michael Schumacher is going to be a threat to his title run in 2011. Many ruled out this comment by the Spaniard as they believe that this is just a part of the “pre-season mind
games” by the teams. Since he mentioned Michael’s name only, this means that he wanted to send a message to Red Bull Racing and McLaren that he does not consider them to be a threat.
However, Michael claims that Fernando Alonso’s statement was not just a “fire in the sky” and that his statement had some logic behind it.
“Fernando knows how to count and that things are going better and better, with the curve clearly on the up at the end of last season. He also knows that we have been working on our new car for a long time, so I think it's realistic for him to put Mercedes
on the bill,” said Michael.
Michael returned to the sport in 2010 and it seems that he was unable to perform up to his expectations after his return as he finished in 9th place while his teammate Nico Rosberg finished in 7th place
in the drivers’ standings by a margin of more than 70 points.
This clearly means that Nico did a better job than the seven-time world champion and since Michael is expected to be a threat, one should not rule out Nico Rosberg either.
Other than that, Michael also stated that Sebastian Vettel would probably get a spot at either Ferrari or Mercedes in the near future.
“Purely hypothetically. It would be unreasonable if Mercedes didn't try to figure out if Sebastian wants to be with us in the future,” said the seven-time world champion.
It would be interesting to see Michael Schumacher alongside Sebastian Vettel in 2012 or the near future. Two German championship-winning drivers in the same team is going to be like a dream come true for most of the Formula 1 fans.
