Michael Schumacher confident he will be competing for podium positions in 2011 Formula 1 season
The seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has recently stated that he is going to compete for podium positions in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Schumacher scored the fastest lap time of the final pre-season test session in Barcelona giving his team the much-needed confidence before heading to Australia where the season opening race of the new season is scheduled to take place on 27 March, 2011.
“My feeling is a good one. The team has been working very hard over the winter to shape our car in all of the areas which had been identified by us as needing improvement,” he told the media.
The team’s new car Mercedes W02 was facing some reliability issues during the first three pre-season test sessions but Mercedes GP claim that they have resolved the issues now and are confident about the upcoming season.
Michael is confident that after the new upgrades, their new car has the potential to compete alongside the top running teams in the season. He said the data from the pre-season test sessions was quite encouraging but they were not totally relying on it.
Schumacher added that as a driver, he was hoping for a better showing as compared to the team’s 2010 run which was quite disappointing statistically.
“I am confident that we can compete for podium finishes, and I am hopeful we can fight for victories at some of the races. Saying that, we will only see the truth once the season gets underway, so I can hardly wait to go to Melbourne to finally see what
the real picture is,” said the seven-time world champion.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is going to be the first season of the sport to have 5 champions on the grid at the same time which includes Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
The new season is going to be entertaining and it is going to be interesting to see how the five champions compete against each other.
