Michael Schumacher confidently looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher is confidently looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Schumacher said that the Montreal circuit suits their car as they can take the benefit of DRS-activated F-duct device which gives boost to the top pace in a straight line.
“The characteristics of the circuit should suit us, and we are counting on our car performing well there,” he said. “A trip to Montreal is always worth it. And let's hope we can make our trip this year especially worthwhile.”
The seven-time world champion has shown some impressive performances during the qualifying in the season so far. Moreover, he topped the timesheets in the qualifying of the Monaco GP.
However, he started the race from 6th grid position as he faced five-place grid penalty because of his collision with Bruno Senna of Williams in the Spanish GP. Besides, he could not pocket any points in the last race as he was retired.
Furthermore, he has only been able to score 2 points in the season until now. Nevertheless, he is hopeful that he will strike back in the upcoming races.
On the other hand, his teammate, Nico Rosberg also said that they are aiming for a strong race in Montreal. In addition, he said that they have been able to improve the performance of their car and are feeling positively for the forthcoming races.
“With its low downforce and slow corners, a little bit like Monza, the track should suit our car,” he said. “We've made good progress over the past few weeks, and that was clear from the performance in Monaco. So I'm hopeful that we can make another step
forward in Canada and have a successful weekend.”
Rosberg is currently at fifth place in the drivers’ championship with 59 points. In addition, he is 8 points ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Mercedes and 4 points behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
The Brackley based team has emerged as one of the most competitive contenders in this season and they are trying their best to make the essential advancements and the necessary preparations so as to improve the pace of their car in order to win the championship
title.
