Michael Schumacher convinced he will win eighth title

Seven-times Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher has claimed that he will become the champion for the eighth time in his career as he came out of his retirement with a purpose of winning the title yet again.
A lot of criticism followed the decision of the legendary German driver to come out of his retirement and join Mercedes GP but the champion driver is committed to his goal and says that he has the right to make his own decisions.
Mercedes was confident that Schumacher will be as strong as he was in the past, but the 2010 season proved to be a disappointment for the former champion as he finished at a disappointing ninth spot in the overall standings.
Schumacher stated, “Look, we have a three-year project. Very clearly right now, we are not where we want to be. We've put a lot of effort into coming back and are optimistic we have a chance.”
He added that it was very difficult to resume racing in Formula 1 after such a long gap and win races straightaway.
The seven-time champion struggled last year with the Bridgestone tyres but they will no longer be a part of the Formula 1 racing from the next season onwards as Pirelli will take over as the tyre suppliers.
Many experts predicted that the return of Pirelli will work in favour of Schumacher as he is the only driver to have raced with Pirelli tyres in Formula.
The Mercedes team also admitted that they were unable to provide a strong car to Schumacher for the 2010 season and that was also a reason of the lacklustre performance of the former champ.
Schumacher, who has a three-year deal with Mercedes, said he will give his 100 percent in the next season to win the championship for his team. He said that if unsuccessful this year, he will go on for the title in 2012.
Former champion Alain Prost played down the possibility of Schumacher winning the championship for the eighth time in his career. He said that it will be impossible for him to do that after returning to the sport following a three-year absence.
However, Schumacher’s long time rival, Fernando Alonso claimed that the German will be a strong contender for the championship in the next season.
