Michael Schumacher criticises Mercedes
Michael Schumacher vehemently criticised Mercedes and its car for his poor run in Formula One racing in the 2010 season. The German has been struggling since the beginning of the season as he has not been able to score a single win or land a podium finish. He has not been able to qualify in good positions either. The German is being criticized from all sides as his young teammate Nico Rosberg has been outperforming him by quite a margin.
Schumacher is currently in a disappointing 9th place with just 38 points behind Robert Kubica with 89 points in the 8th place. Nico Rosberg has been consistently outracing the 41-year-old and this season is getting quite frustrating for the seven-time World Champion. This will be the first time after 17 years that Michael finishes under the 5th position in the drivers’ standings. Explaining the reason for his woes, Michael said that he is not satisfied with the points and neither is the team and there are reasons why the deficit is so great.
The Brawn GP car was designed to suite British driver Jenson Buttons’ liking for under steer while Schumacher demands a car with a responsive front end. The German has also struggled to get the best of his Bridgestone tyres as the Bridgestone is gaining more quickly than his liking.
Michael however has been one of the most consistent drivers in Formula One history. He has been in driving in F1 since 1991 when he joined Benetton and scored 4 points that year after securing the 14th place in the driving standings. The 41-year-old then joined Benetton that gave him 2 championships in the years 1994 and 1995. He scored a total of 19 wins, 38 podiums and 10 pole positions. Michael then joined Ferrari and stayed with the team for the next 10 years. Michael scored a total of 72 wins and 58 pole positions. Along with team Ferrari, Michael Schumacher won 5 consecutive Championship titles – a feat which is yet to be repeated.
Michael Schumacher has been known as one of the best drivers ever to race in the Formula 1. He has the best record statistically in the sport and expects to make it even better in the near future. The 41-year-old has been very consistent over the past years and needs to repeat his performances from the past to make a competitive place for himself in Formula One racing. Schumacher holds a number of world records under his belt. He’s remember for winning the highest number of consecutive races, the most wins at the same Grand Prix which stands at 8 times at the French Grand Prix, 22 wins at different GP’s, 19 consecutive podium finishes at the U.S. Grand Prix 2001 and the Japanese Grand Prix 2002, a total of 197 points finishes, a total leading distance of 22,155 km laps, 76 fastest laps records, 40 Doubles (Pole and Win) and 22 Perfects (Pole, Win and Fastest Lap). Michael Schumacher returned to the circuit this year after retiring from Formula One in 2006 and is currently racing for Mercedes.
A drop in form comes as a surprise for many as Team Mercedes, which was initially known as Brawn GP, was doing great last year when they won the constructors title. Meanwhile, Jenson Button had won the drivers title with Mercedes in their debut season. The team was expected to perform in the same manner as they did in 2009 but results did not go their way. However, the team Mercedes is expecting to make a comeback at the Belgian Grand Prix on 28-29 August.
The German, while explaining his woes opined, that the Mercedes car is a remnant of the car created last year and as a result, the drivers have to suffer as the car is not at all in harmony with the tyres or the drivers. Michael believes that the team will be able to go for the title next year as they are working very hard on the new car. The team is making sure that everything blends correctly with the drivers to ensure a good car for the upcoming season. Critics expect a lot from the German in the coming races and Michael looks like he’s up for it.
