Michael Schumacher decides to retire at the end of 2012 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has announced that he is going to retire from Formula 1 at the end of 2012 season.
Schumacher’s decision follows the recent news that the Brackley based team has signed a new contract with McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton who will be replacing the seven-time world champion in the coming year. However, the veteran German driver has asserted
that he doesn’t feel completely motivated for the sport anymore and is not looking forward to secure a race seat in any team for the next season.
The veteran German driver said that even though he can still compete with the best drivers in the sport but he has decided to take retirement at the conclusion of this season. Moreover, he said that he has never felt bad about his return and is very pleased
with his accomplishments until now. In addition, he said that although he has tried his best to improve his performance during the previous three seasons but he expressed that now is the time to say goodbye to F1.
“I have decided to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the season, although I am still able to compete with the best drivers of the world,” Schumacher said. “This is something that makes me proud, and this is part of why I never regretted my comeback. I
can be happy with my performance and the fact that I was continuously raising my game during the last three years. But then, at some point it is time to say goodbye.”
The record championship holder came back to the sport in 2010 with the Silver Arrows but has struggled with his pace and has only been able to secure one podium finish since then. Nonetheless, it will be important to mention that he is the only driver in
the history of F1 who has claimed 91 grands prix victories. Besides, he said that he is not feeling upset over his retirement and is extremely happy with his overall achievements.
“But then it is also clear that I can still be very happy about my overall achievements in Formula One,” he added.
