Michael Schumacher declares the success out-of-reach – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Michael Schumacher declares that the success of the team in the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season is out of reach, after the completion of the pre-season tests at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
Schumacher believed that Red Bull Racing were the strongest team after he completed 100 laps on the last day of the final test at Barcelona while setting the eighth fastest lap time of 1 minute 22.939 seconds.
Furthermore, he expressed that the team still needed to work on the issue of tyre degradation due to which the team had been losing 2 seconds per 10 laps.
“No, I don't think it is possible for us to fight for the first position,” Schumacher said. “Quite honestly, Red Bull is very strong in this sector to be the first position, and I have to say after this is a pretty tight field. With the testing knowledge,
not knowing everything in detail, how much fuel people are running it's very difficult to assume and assess what it means exactly.”
Moreover, Mercedes had been struggling for a win since 2010 and even delayed the launch of its new car W03 until the second test in order to make the necessary improvements in the car.
Schumacher stated that the team had been making the best of the efforts and the significant preparations for the first Grand Prix of the forthcoming season at Melbourne, Australia.
Moreover, he said that the team had been working really hard and had been quite successful in making the substantial improvements in the new car while being ready to discover how close the team were as compared to its contenders.
Schumacher asserted that the team had faced many major issues during the past, especially regarding the performance of the new car. However, the team had been able to resolve the major issues of the past and did not have any big issue at this point in time.
Moreover, he said that the team had now focused on the development of its new car rather than fixing different things and equipments around the car, in order to get prepared for the upcoming season.
