After a long debate all through the season, Michael Schumacher has finally put an end to it, which could keep going on for another season as well.
While talking to the media earlier today, the seven-time world champion and the most popular name in the racing world, announced that he is not the ‘greatest driver’ to have ever raced.
Although his statistical record does not agree to what he proclaims, there are people in the sport who agree to what Schumacher says. Schumacher has 91 grand prix wins and the extraordinary record of seven Drivers' Championships to his name, of which the
last five were won by him consecutively. With his stats, he undoubtedly stands as the best driver ever competed in Formula One’s long history of 60 years.
However, many believe that he is only a good driver and not a great one but surely has an unmatched luck and timing. During his peak years, he has not encountered great drivers, which is a big reason of his dominance. He did not race against drivers like,
Juan Manuel Fangio, who claimed five World titles but left before the German came to the sport. Moreover, he saw only two full seasons up against Ayrton Senna, who has three Drivers' championships to his name, and is considered the biggest name ever entered
in the sport.
While talking to journalists earlier today he dismissed the debate saying that he is the best driver of the sport. The 41-year-old explained, "No, you have to talk F1 driver, there so many different categories. If you take Sports Car, DTM - my brother is
doing that, I tried that, no way I could be that successful compared to what I have been in F1, I didn't have the feeling."
Moreover, he was also asked by the reports that whether he came to the sport with the aim of only winning and making records. While answering this, the German said, "No, it has to be within a frame of what's allowed, but within that frame, yes, I push things
to the borderline."
Although, the 2010 season had been very poor for the racer and many believe that he has committed a big mistake by returning to the sport, the legendary racer is adamant to come back next year and prove his skills once again.
