Michael Schumacher disappointed after Australian Grand Prix qualifying session – Formula 1 news
The seven-time world champion was clearly disappointed after the qualifying session of the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season that is currently taking place in Australia at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne.
Mercedes GP were expected to be one of the top running teams of the 2011 Formula 1 season but it seems that the team has not been able to perform up to the mark up until now as compared to McLaren and Red Bull Racing team.
Michael was unable to qualify for the final round of the qualifying session, which is between the fastest 10 drivers of the session for the pole position for the upcoming respective race.
However, Schumacher was a bit unlucky as he was cut off from the top 10 just by 0.087 seconds and will now have to start the season opening race in 11th
place of the grid.
His teammate Nico Rosberg on the other hand made it to the final Q3 session and scored an impressive 7th place on the grid for the Australian Grand Prix.
“Clearly that was not an ideal start to the season, and I cannot deny that I am disappointed,” he said. “It's not about that KERS only worked intermittently or that I could probably have made it to Q3, but it is because our performance did not turn out as
we expected.”
It was disappointing for the team as well as teams like Toro Rosso and Sauber had each of their respective drivers in the final session.
Nevertheless, Red Bull Racing team was miles ahead of the rest of the teams as Sebastian Vettel scored the pole position after scoring a lap more than 7 tenths of a second faster than the 2nd fastest driver of the session Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes GP were quite confident after scoring some pretty good results during the pre-season test sessions but it seems that they are not as fast as compared to the top running teams.
“We faced more problems here than at the test with several issues throughout the whole weekend. We now have to look deeply into it to understand why it turned out to be like this, because for the moment we are not where we wanted to be,” said the seven-time
world champion.
Other than that, the Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn stated that the car has not been up to the mark so far this weekend but every team will now put everything into the race in Australia that is expected to take place on March 27, 2011.
