Michael Schumacher does not want his achievements compared to Sebastian Vettel’s – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher, who has recently retired from F1, has stated that his achievements should not be compared to that of Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel after he won his third consecutive title at the end of 2012 F1 season.
“You have to be special to do that, it's pretty simple,” said Schumacher about Vettel becoming the youngest triple champion.
However, Schumacher said that he should not be compared to his young compatriot.
“I don't think we need to compare. He is doing his thing in his moment and I did it before,” he added.
On the other hand, Vettel has said that the finality of winning the title third time in a row is still unbelievable.
“I think it's still difficult to put it in perspective,” Vettel said. “I'm not waking up in the morning and thinking of what I have achieved. I'm happy with who I am and I'm happy to wake up the next day and really go day by day, not making things too complicated
or thinking about it too much.”
Vettel himself has stated on numerous occasions that he should not be compared to someone as legendary as Schumacher as he is very far from achieving what he has.
Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, has also stated that while they still have to see Vettel perform at his best but it is very difficult to perceive anyone beating Schumacher’s records.
Schumacher and Vettel have been compared for a long time and the German media has gone as far as calling the Red Bull driver ‘baby Schumi’ or the ‘new Schumacher’. Vettel has also admitted that while he was young, Schumacher was one of his ideals. Schumacher
has achieved seven world titles in his career spanned over 22 years which also includes the record of winning five consecutive titles. On the hand, Vettel is only 25 and has already won three straight championships so that he needs only to more in a row to
beat Schumacher’s record.
Schumacher and Vettel have also been representing Germany in the Race of Champions (ROC) for the last six years which includes the one held recently and also winning the Nations cup in all of them.
