Michael Schumacher doubts victory in Australian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG Petronas driver, Michael Schumacher has expressed that victory in the first Grand Prix of the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on March 18, 2012 is ‘unlikely.’
However, seven-time world champion said that the team was in a better position for the upcoming season as compared to the last two seasons.
Mercedes are “heading into the season much better prepared than in the past two years, and we can fully concentrate onto the development of our car,” he said.
Moreover, he said that Red Bull was the strongest contender for the upcoming season.
“Victory to me is unlikely, I see Red Bull in front. Behind them it will be tight, and you can be either hero or zero very quickly,” said Schumacher.
In addition, Schumacher’s contract with Mercedes would expire after the forthcoming season and he stated that a victory would primarily depend on “how well you will be setting up your car to the respective track.”
The pace of the new car Silver Arrow F1 W03 is quite dependable which had been proven after 4,250 kilometres of test running. Moreover, Schumacher said that during the pre-season tests they had been driving a lot which ultimately helped in the collection
of the necessary data regarding the performance of the new car to make further improvements and significant preparations for the upcoming season.
He added that the team had already stepped forward and he was only waiting for the first race to start which would help him in judging the enhancements they had made in the car as compared to the other contenders.
