Michael Schumacher drops to 22nd after a five grid-penalty – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher endures more disappointment as he is hit with a gearbox penalty and drops five grid places.
Schumacher had a forgetful qualifying day on Saturday as he was not able to qualify for Q2. Now he has even more trouble to contend during the race as he drops fiver more places to 22nd position.
News from the Mercedes camp reveals that there was a DRS problem with Schumacher’s car that is why he did not put more laps in to be able to qualify for Q2.
Pastor Maldonado was also given a gear box penalty which elevated Schumacher to the number 17 position, but now Schumacher will be facing similar fate and will receive a gear box penalty.
Schumacher will all the promise and potential shown in the current season with the new Mercedes car, has had poor luck and only has been able to secure 1 point in the season so far. Schumacher has had two retirements in the season so far.
The Bahrain GP was imperative for the Mercedes team to keep their campaign on for the world and the drivers’ championship titles.
Schumacher is the only driver to have been able to start the race from the 24th position to go on to win the race and he will be started from the 22nd position in Sakhir. Fans will be hoping the veteran can pull something special like
that although it would be wishful thinking to hope for the German to pull out a win from such a position at this point of his career.
It will be an interesting battle none the less as Nico Rosberg the other Mercedes driver finished fifth and will be going head to head with the Red Bulls and the McLarens who cover the first four positions of the grid.
Sebastian Vettel got his first pole position of the season. Behind him is Lewis Hamilton then Mark Webber followed by Jenson Button.
Bahrain GP is with all the political instability and the rioting over the past two weeks has managed to overcome the distractions so far and set up the race perfectly for an intriguing race day.
