Michael Schumacher enjoying 'private commentator' role – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher has claimed that he is enjoying life away from Formula 1 and is now a “private television commentator” for his wife Corinna during the races in the ongoing season.
Arguably the greatest driver of all time had quit racing at the end of the 2006 season, but decided to make a comeback with Mercedes in 2010. Everyone was expecting him to be fighting for championships straightaway, but things did not turn out to be that
way.
As a result, the legendary driver decided to call it a day for yet another time in 2012 because of the fact that he did not have a car to fight for victories.
He said, “If there had been at least the prospect of fighting for the world championship last year, then it might have been a different decision. But I’m very happy.”
Schumacher went onto say that he is still in touch with some of his friends in Formula 1, who continue updating him about the latest happenings.
He said, “A few people from Mercedes and Ferrari keep me in the loop. But it’s not as though I’m interested in everything.”
The 44-year-old German managed to win seven record championships in his illustrious career and it will not be easy for anyone to emulate what he did in the sport. He has got almost every record in the books and is in a league of his own.
Therefore, his return to the sport was criticised widely, as people believed that he would not be able to compete against youngsters in the modern machinery. Despite that, Schumacher impressed his fans with some terrific performances, which proved that he
would still be competitive, had he been given a strong car.
His pole lap in Monaco last year was an evidence of how committed he was and even the modern greats were unable to beat him on the most difficult track of them all. However, he was unable to win any race during his comeback years, which was quite disappointing
for his fans.
Even though Schumacher’s return to F1 seems unlikely now, he insisted that his fans will see him in a Silver Arrows again like they witnessed recently during a demonstration run at Nordschleife.
