Michael Schumacher expects a change in fortune at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver Michael Schumacher expects a change in his fortune at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix after scoring only one championship point at the second race in the season so far.
The seven-time world champion took retirement in 2006 and returned to F1 couple of years ago. He had a struggling first year of his comeback in which he was completely outperformed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
Nevertheless, the record championship holder performed reasonably well during the last year with his best result of fourth place finish at Canadian Grand Prix.
During the last two years Schumacher has finished at tenth and eighth position in the Chinese GP. Moreover, he faced issues in Drag Reduction System (DRS) during the qualifying session at Shanghai, last year.
Nonetheless, the veteran German driver is hopeful for the third race in China.
“When I think about the Chinese Grand Prix, the fans are the first thing that comes to mind,” Schumacher said. “For many years now, I've had a big and loyal fan base there, and it's still very touching to see the lengths they go to in supporting me. A big
thank you to all of them! As for the race itself, I've never had much luck in Shanghai, apart from my win in 2006; however that could change this year.”
Even though, Schumacher showed some impressive performances in the qualifying of the opening two races held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. However, he could not be able to convert his competitive grid
positions into a single podium finish.
“In the first two races of 2012, we didn't manage to maintain our qualifying pace in race conditions,” he said.
Even so he said that they have been taking out the best in them to make the substantial developments and the necessary preparations for the races ahead in order to improve the pace of the car. He also said that they are looking forward to show their fans
an incredible performance at Shanghai.
Besides, Norbert Haug, the vice-president of Mercedes motorsport is hoping that the Brackley-based team will overcome on the issue of tyres in the next race.
