Michael Schumacher expects good race in Valencia before going for UK and Germany – Formula 1
Mercedes’ Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher has stated that his team will look for a good race in the Valencia Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season before heading for the home tracks of England and Germany.
The seven-time Formula 1 champion Schumacher added that his team is working hard to get positive results from the European Grand Prix.
Schumacher did a remarkable job for his team when in the rain-interrupted Montreal Grand Prix, the German ran as high as second in the last laps of the race in a much slower and relatively less reliable car.
The German got some confidence from the Montreal race and said, “After an encouraging weekend in Canada, it is nice being back in Europe again where we start the summer season. Valencia stages one of the more unusual races in the calendar with a street circuit
which in my view is very attractive for both us drivers and the fans.”
He further added, “I enjoyed the weekend here last year as the track is quite fast and flowing. Of course we hope that we can put on a good show, deliver a strong performance and experience another encouraging weekend, before we head to our home races in
England and Germany.”
The German driver finished 15th in the European Grand Prix in the 2010 season but still it was a good result for him as Mercedes team was relatively new at that time.
After returning to the Formula 1 arena after a break of three years, Schumacher was very close to his first podium in two years with the newly formed team.
In the first seven races of the 2011 Formula 1 season, the German managed his best result in the Canadian Grand Prix when he finished fourth in the final standings.
Schumacher was running in second position in the race only before Jenson Button and Mark Webber found their way past through the slow car of the German. Schumacher did his best to hold at least Webber off but was unsuccessful in doing that in the Drag Reduction
System zone.
However, the fourth position in the Montreal race saw the German getting ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in the drivers’ championship table. Schumacher is now 9th on the table with 26 points with only five race finishes out of the seven concluded.
In Australia and Monaco, Schumacher was unable to finish the race due to an unreliable Mercedes car.
Nevertheless, 12 races are still to be contested in the season and it will be interesting to see how Schumacher drives in them.
