Michael Schumacher feels confident for 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher is feeling confident that he can claim victory in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Schumacher topped the timesheets in the qualifying of the Monaco GP at Circuit de Monaco. However, he faced five-place grid penalty because of his collision with Bruno Senna of Williams in the fifth race. Therefore, he started the race from sixth grid position
in Monte Carlo but he could not pocket any points as he was retired.
Nevertheless, the seven-time world champion has expressed that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the next race.
“Let's put it this way - I like number seven!” Schumacher said. “It certainly is the right direction. We've seen in Monaco that we can be strong and here is a sort of similar situation that could be good for us.”
He added, “I'm very confident on this one. If you take the comeback time from the start to now, probably this is the closest that we can be of having a good result this weekend.”
The record championship holder has only been able to score 2 points in the season so far. Furthermore, it will be important to mention that although he delivered some amazing performances during the qualifying of the first three grands prix but he could
not convert his competitive grid positions into a podium finish in either of them.
In addition, he has only been able to finish two races in the season until now. Nonetheless, he said that he is not disappointed by the difficulties that he faced while he asserted that he has been competitive in his car.
“Honestly, if you look right from the beginning of the season I've been very competitive,” he said.
The Brackley-based team is presently standing at fifth position in the constructors’ championship with 61 points. Besides, they are 17 points ahead of Williams and 25 points behind Lotus.
Above and beyond, they are trying their best to make the necessary preparations and the substantial developments so as to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming season in order to fight for the championship title.
