Michael Schumacher heads towards his 300th Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps
Formula 1 legend, Michael Schumacher is about to take part in his 300th Grand Prix which is going to be held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and it will be indeed another great milestone for him in his dazzling career so far.
Schumacher is eagerly looking forward to participate in the 2012 Belgian GP and is feeling immensely pleased as he has some of the most beautiful memories associated with Spa where he made his debut, scored his first race win and claimed one of his most
cherished championship titles.
Moreover, he will become the second driver after Rubens Barrichello who will race in his 300th GP this weekend. Additionally, he has a chance to break the record of Barrichello who is at the top of the most experienced F1 drivers’ list with 326
races, if he continues to race in the next season too.
However, it will be important to mention that he has not shown any such intention that if he would stay in the game for the coming year, it will be only to break the record of the Brazilian driver.
Furthermore, the veteran German driver has been made an honorary citizen of Spa. Besides, the mayor of Spa, Joseph Houssa called the iconic driver the champion of champions and asserted that Schumacher has done tremendous efforts for uplifting the image
of the motorsport in their region.
"Spa is like my living room; for me, it's clearly the number one race track in the world," Schumacher said ahead of the race. "It's uncanny how I always seem to have special moments there - my debut, my first win, a world championship victory and many great
races."
The record championship holder is the only driver who has won six races at Spa and has always enjoyed his time there. Additionally, he said that he never believed that he will make his way into the 300th race ever in his career. Nonetheless, he
is feeling extremely happy and is aiming to attain competitive results in the forthcoming race.
"It's certainly an interesting, beautiful and nice number to be around," he said. "I didn't even think I would do that at the time that I retired at the end of 2006 and he we are and now I'm counting the 300,” he added.
The seven-time world champion took retirement in 2006 and made his return with Mercedes back in 2010. Unfortunately, he struggled throughout the last two seasons and was completely outclassed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
Besides, he has also faced difficulties in this season with finding the right setup for his car and has retired in six out of first eleven races. Although, he has performed convincingly well in the qualifying of many races but could not achieve competitive
scores even after starting from higher grid slots because of some issues in the car.
Nonetheless, the 43-year old showed an amazing performance in the European GP which was held at Valencia Street Circuit and secured an inspiring 3rd podium finish after taking a start from 12th grid position.
There have been many speculations that he may leave F1 at the conclusion of this year. However, the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn is hoping him to stay in the next season and is expecting the most celebrated driver in the history of the sport to
take his decision soon.
