Michael Schumacher hints at an extension to his career – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher has hinted that 2012 might not be his last season in Formula 1.
Speculations over his career were rife as the German’s contract is suppose to mature by the end of the 2012. Schumacher had earlier mentioned that he will look into his future plans. He wanted to analyse his performance and the team's progress to make a
decision on his career. Now the seven-time champion has hinted that he might be looking into extending his career beyond 2012.
Mercedes team is having a good year so far in the season although Schumacher's luck has not sided with him to perform to his potential as a series of team errors and other incidents caused him to lose out on vital season points. Despite the early poor luck,
Schumacher has been able to claim his first podium finish in the season at the European Grand Prix.
Mercedes have a car in the season that has the ability to challenge the top teams of the season. Nico Rosberg Schumacher’s teammate has also been able to secure his maiden victory and has remained a consistent performer in the season.
“I am not yet satisfied,” Schumacher said. “For I have achieved too little in the second part [of my career]. I'm still highly motivated. For how long, only time will tell.”
“There have still been no talks between myself and Mercedes about an extension, but these talks will take place. We will discuss a time for them,” added the German.
Given the high level of competitiveness in the season it is going to be a tough task for Mercedes to challenge for the titles, but that very competitiveness is also going to allow for the chance to contend for the titles.
The news gives hope to thousands of Schumacher's fans all around the world who were thinking that 2012 might be the end of an illustrious career.
Schumacher said that he was expecting that the talks of his future start soon with team Principal Ross Brawn.
Brawn has been the biggest supporter of Schumacher and during the struggles of the German earlier in the season he defended the former champion and said that the team has let Schumacher down.
