Michael Schumacher hints that he intends to continue beyond 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has hinted that he intends to continue his career in the sport beyond 2012 Formula 1 season.
Schumacher’s contract with the Brackley based team is going to expire at the end of the current season. Moreover, there have been many speculations that he may leave F1 at the conclusion of this season.
Although, Mercedes motorsport director, Norbert Haug has said that they want the veteran German driver to stay in the team after 2012. However, the seven-time world champion has avoided giving any kind of remarks about his future plans.
Nevertheless, he has recently indicated that he is not fully satisfied with his play until now and is very much motivated to continue even after this season.
“I am not yet satisfied,” Schumacher said. “For I have achieved too little in the second part [of my career]. I'm still highly motivated. For how long, only time will tell.”
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn is hoping Schumacher to decide about the future during the summer and before the Belgian GP.
“I don't think I ever said any kind of time, neither did I say summer and if you may apologise, I have no further news on that matter, so give me the time that I need and we will see,” said Brawn.
Meanwhile, the record championship holder expressed that he is expecting to have conversation with his team soon, about the extension of his contract.
“There have still been no talks between myself and Mercedes about an extension, but these talks will take place. We will discuss a time for them,” he said.
Presently, he is standing at 12th place in the drivers’ championship with 23 points along with Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Besides, he is 4 points behind Paul di Resta of Force India and is just 2 points ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber.
Over and above, he secured an impressive third podium finish in the European GP which is his best performance since his comeback in F1 and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming races.
