Michael Schumacher hopeful Mercedes GP will shine at the 2011 Indian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes GP out rightly expressed optimism for his team’s chances of grabbing points ahead of the inaugural 2011 Indian Grand Prix set to take place Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the new Buddh International Circuit.
The seven-time world champion is quite confident of his team’s chances of putting forth a great race at this weekend’s race. After having a look at the layout of the recently constructed Buddh racetrack, he is pretty clear that if all goes as planned nothing
should stop him from putting up a great performance.
Schumacher acknowledged the efforts of the builders and organisers of this circuit in giving Formula 1 a new racetrack that is built on a completely different concept.
Schumacher praised the designers of this circuit and showed his eagerness and excitement in driving at the Buddh racetrack.
He said, “It is a new philosophy with the overtaking with getting the circuit very wide at the entry because we have the one line defend mechanism so if you go that far certainly the other guy choosing the outside line can take a god run at you at the end
of the straight. So it offers good tactical perspectives for overtaking.”
Reflecting on their earlier performances this season and on the team’s prospects for this race, Schumacher said, “This track honestly probably plays a little bit into our hands. Qualifying is usually difficult but then the race we have been stronger recently.”
The Mercedes GP team has not been doing that well in the qualifying rounds for the last couple of races in this season, however when it comes to the race, the team’s performance has been truly commendable.
The morning session of the first free practice at the Buddh International Circuit saw Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes topping who clocked 1 minute and 26.836 seconds after fighting a tight battle with Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing team, who was
only 12 seconds faster than his teammate Mark Webber.
Schumacher and his teammate from Mercedes GP, Nico Rosberg were at fifth and sixth positions respectively.
With the second practice session due to take place in the afternoon, let’s see how the team performs.
The qualifying round and the race follow the practice sessions, on Sunday, October 30, 2011.
