Michael Schumacher is hoping for competitive 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher says that he is hoping for a competitive race in 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco in Spain on May 27.
The seven-time world champion faced five-place grid penalty after his collision with Bruno Senna of Williams in the last race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. Nevertheless, he said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the race ahead.
Even though, he said that overtaking will be very difficult on the track of the approaching race. However, he expressed that they are targeting to come up strongly in the next race with their competent car. Additionally, he said that he is aiming to deliver
a good performance in the qualifying on Saturday.
“Basically I think we're going to be in a position to be competitive,” he said. “As a general track profile I think it's going to suit ourselves, and I have been coming from the complete back and got forward to fifth position I think (in 2006 after being
penalised for stopping on track during qualifying). Let's see from where I manage to finally qualify and start the race and what can be done. It's certainly not ideal but it is what it is and I'll look forward - I'm going to have some excitement pretty certainly.”
The record championship holder is currently standing on 18th position in the drivers’ rankings and has only been able to score 2 points in the season so far.
Moreover, he retired in three of the first five races while came 10th in the second and fourth races.
In addition, it will be important to mention that he performed convincingly during the qualifying of the first three races. Conversely, he could not convert his competitive grid positions into a good race finish in either of the races.
Over and above, he said that he is feeling very much confident for the upcoming races with W03. Furthermore, he said that they have been making the essential advancements and the substantial preparations in order to improve the pace of their car so as to
make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
