Michael Schumacher leading final pre-season test session in Barcelona – Formula 1 news
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher of Mercedes GP has set the pace at the final pre-season test session that is currently taking place in Barcelona with an amazing lap time of 1:21.268.
Mercedes were in all sorts of trouble recently when they were trying hard to get their new car together but now it seems that they have stabilised it drastically at the right time.
However, the only concern for the team is that Schumacher scored his fastest time on a low-fuel run while Red Bull Racing Team have not completed any laps on a low-fuel run yet.
After completing the run, Schumacher handed over the car to his teammate Nico Rosberg for the team’s afternoon run at the fourth day of the final pre-season test session in Barcelona. Nico then scored the third fastest time of the session which is another
good sign for the team.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso is currently in the middle of the two Mercedes drivers with the second fastest time of the session followed by Nick Heidfeld and Rubens Barrichello in the 4th and 5th places respectively.
On the other hand, McLaren are suffering vitally as they still cannot get rid of their reliability issues. Jenson Button had another miserable session as he had to make an engine change for his car disabling him to participate in the remainder of the day.
Button was able to score just 57 laps and since it was his last run of the final pre-season test session, he will now have to wait until the season opening grand prix that is expected to take place on 25 March, 2011 in Australia.
Teams still have one whole day of testing in Barcelona and it is going to be interesting to see how most of them perform with their respective cars at their best.
