Michael Schumacher likely to retire soon – Formula 1 News
Johnny Herbert, former team-mate of Formula 1 Mercedes driver, Michael Schumacher, has recently updated the media with Schumacher’s possible retirement from Formula 1.
Herbert said that the 42-year-old driver is likely to retire again at the end of 2011 season, as he has failed to beat the new generation of F1 drivers, since his return to the sport.
The seven-time world champion was very strong driver of Formula 1, until his retirement in the end of 2006. After completing his three-year retirement from the sport, he has not been able to put up his previous years’ performance on the grid.
Herbert, added, “He did not return just to run in the middle order. His dream was to win again and make Mercedes race winners, but it has not turned out that way and I would be surprised if he chose to continue. The simple fact is that he is no longer the
best driver on the track.”
The Briton discussed Schumacher’s current condition and said that Schumi is still moving on the grid with his all skills. He added that the reason for his poor performance in the ongoing season is because of the fact that the new generation of drivers is
better than him.
Herbert was clear that Schumacher’s age is not a reason for his downfall. The British racing driver added that competitors like Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have just raised the bar.
Schumacher’s team-mate, Nico Rosberg, also showed that he can compete against strong rivals. His performance this season is much better than Schumacher, as he got close to the race’s top runners, in the recent Turkish Grand Prix.
Herbert went on to add, “In the past, Schumacher was able to be very forceful in races and his sheer presence would almost force cars to pull aside or back out of situations. But this is no longer happening and you are seeing this with the number of incidents
he has been involved in both this year and last season as well.”
After his disappointing start to the season, Schumacher wants to put up a show with some good performances in the remaining season.
