Michael Schumacher names his top-four in Formula 1 this year – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher has said that Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen are the best drivers in Formula 1 racing at the moment.
Talking about all these veteran drivers, the seven-time world champion said, “They’re all human, of course, so they all have their weaknesses, but they all work hard to hide them. But that is also the secret to always-better results and to not making mistakes.
I am not going to analyse it further — I think the best one wins.”
Schumacher is currently enjoying his time away from Formula 1, after he resigned from the sport for the second time in his career. He initially quit back in 2006, ending a great career with Ferrari, where he won five back-to-back championships. Although
no one would have expected to see him back, he decided to come out of retirement to support Mercedes, which debuted in 2010.
However, things did not turn out to be good for the legendary German, who struggled to match his team-mate Nico Rosberg during his comeback year. He did not give up though and kept on improving with the passage of time. By his third year, he was consistently
matching his partner in terms of qualifying pace, but failed to translate that form into racing, as he had a streak of reliability problems.
Any Formula 1 expert could clearly tell that Schumacher was better than Rosberg during 2013, but the statistics told a different story. The veteran driver was probably not enjoying the Pirelli tyres, which caused plenty of problems for Mercedes, thus he
decided to quit racing for the second time in his career.
When asked about the tyre situation, he replied, “I already said last year after Bahrain that something is not working quite right, that there are problems, but now everyone has noticed. The biggest problem for me is that the tyres should be compatible with
the majority of the teams, not just a few cars as has happened in these last two years.”
Even this year, the tyres have suited some cars better than the others, which does not seem to be fair, so the FIA needs to take some serious action over the current situation.
