Michael Schumacher needs to perform after the season resumes from the summer break – Formula 1
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has been able to outshine his veteran teammate Michael Schumacher so far since the two joined the team.
The seven-time champion Schumacher has found it difficult upon his return to the sport to find the right car for him to score points and win races.
2012 was the first season he has been able to manage a podium finish since he returned to the sport in 2010.
He has said countless times that he is still working on developing the team so that he can make it into a winning team and the main reason for his return to the sport has been to win his 8th world championship title.
As big a driver as Schumacher is, but his ambitions of winning his 8th world title look to be diminishing as he continues to fail to impress or find form. Luck has also been a factor and it has not been on veteran’s side lately especially in 2012 where the
team has erred on several times to fail Schumacher as admitted by team’s Principal Ross Brawn.
While on the other hand Rosberg has been able to score more points than Schumacher in the previous two seasons and in the current one as well. The young German had publicly shown his intent that he wants to score better and finish higher than his teammate
in order to prove that he is a good driver.
Rosberg was able to secure his maiden Grand Prix win in the current season in China and is looking to repeat that performance in the remainder of the season.
Schumacher on the other hand has not been mincing his words and has clearly said that the team will need to work very hard if they are to compete with the top teams. Mercedes was tipped to be a strong unit for the current season and from their earlier travails
of the season it seemed that is going to be the case but the team has slowly lost its way and are now struggling at fifth place in the constructors’.
Rosberg is placed sixth on the drivers’ standings with 77 points while Schumacher is placed out of the top ten at 12th with only 29 points. Out of the eleven races completed so far, the seven-time champion has only been able to complete five. He retired
from six races due unusual technical difficulties and team errors.
Schumacher will need to hit more podiums and get that elusive race win as well if he is to counter his critics. So far he has not been successful but the season is still on and it will be interesting to see how he performs after the summer break.
