Michael Schumacher not happy with 2011 Formula 1 season performance so far – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has recently admitted that he is not happy with his performance during the 2011 Formula 1 season keeping in mind that his teammate is performing much better than him statistically.
“Yes, I am [disappointed], yeah, absolutely. I think we all expected something different, as we all remember coming to Australia, to the first race and we were very excited, having had a good winter test and then it didn't transform,” he said.
It was expected after the pre-season test sessions that Mercedes GP might even become a championship winning team in 2011 as they were performing really well as compared to Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull Racing. However, after the season opening race of the
2011 Formula 1 season, everything changed and now, they are competing against Lotus Renault GP which is one of the leading mid-running teams of the sport.
However, he claims that in order to improve, the team needs to go through this tough time after which they will have a better chance of taking a shot at the championship in 2012.
“It's like a stock market: before it goes up, it falls down a couple of times and the general trend, what I can see in the factory, the progress that we are making in terms of the infrastructure, how the team is building up, I see very good signs that we
can make it,” said Schumacher.
The German driver is currently in the 10th place in the drivers’ standings with just 28 points which is extremely disappointing for the former world champion.
The German Grand Prix, Schumacher’s home race is expected to take place this coming weekend at the Nurburgring circuit where a straight near turn 8 and turn 9 has been named in the honour of the seven-time world champion as the Schumacher-S.
Schumacher is hoping for a great result this coming weekend and is expecting for a double point finish for the team in order to take the advantage of both the constructors’ and drivers’ standings.
