Michael Schumacher notifies Barcelona track may not suit Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver Michael Schumacher has notified that Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, where 2012 Spanish Grand Prix is going to be held, may not suit his team.
Schumacher thinks that they will face difficulties on Barcelona circuit as there are many fast corners on the track which may expose the limitations of W03. Nevertheless, he said that they will bring out the best in them in order to perform well in the race
ahead.
“Barcelona is a track we have driven extensively on, and this is why we know that its characteristics do not exactly play fully into our hands,” Schumacher said. “But then, we will definitely go there and try our best and at the same time keep on working
for the things to come.”
The Brackley-based team has the most successful pre-season testing programme this year as compared to the preceding one in which they could hardly test run their car before the season opener.
Moreover, they have emerged as one of the most competent teams with their novel DRS-activated F-duct device which boosts up the car’s top speed on track and provide the driver a competitive edge during the race.
In addition, the veteran German said that they have focused on the long-term advancements in the Mugello test which will definitely prove out to be helpful throughout the races ahead.
“The positive thing about the test was that we could really concentrate on the developments we were aiming to work on,” he added. “This should give us a good basis for further developments, even if maybe not for the next race to come.”
The seven-time world champion has performed amazingly in the qualifying of the first three races of the season however, he could not be able to covert his competitive grid position into a podium finish in either of them.
Even though, he qualified for 22nd grid position after facing five-place grid penalty, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. Nonetheless, he showed quite convincing performance in the race and secured 10th position.
Mercedes are presently standing at fifth place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points. Furthermore, they have the potential to fight for this year’s title with the perfect blend of talent, experience and expertise.
