Michael Schumacher plays down 2011 chances before the 2010 season’s climax, the Abu Dhabi GP
Michael Schumacher decided to return to Formula 1 in 2010 after he was offered a spot by Ross Brawn in team Mercedes. Ross was his former technical director during his time in Ferrari and Benetton who enabled his team Brawn GP
to win the title in their debut season in the sport. Michael was expecting similar results in 2010 but things did not go too well for the team as they are currently in 4th place way behind Ferrari this season in the constructors’ standings.
The 7-time world champion has had a disastrous 2010 season but he was hoping for a very promising 2011 season. However, the German driver stated in a recent interview that he is not too optimistic about the 2011 season even though
the 2010 season is yet to finish.
“We began with our new car earlier than some other teams, which is an advantage. But we shouldn't expect any miracles. We cannot take two steps at once. We are after all a smaller team than the big ones, so we have slightly less
capacity,” he said.
Michael was expected to finish on top once again after he gave his team some outstanding test results before the 2010 season began but things turned out differently. It seems that the German driver has been blaming the new tyres
for his disappointing results instead of understanding the new compound. On the other hand, his teammate Nico Rosberg outperformed him at almost every race of this season with comparatively better results.
Schumacher stated that he is not under pressure about the final race at Abu Dhabi as he does not need a podium; however, he would not mind to score one finally.
Mercedes team boss Norbert Haug stated that Michael is trying his best to improve his performance in every way and the team is also trying its best to prepare a championship-winning car for the 2011 season that is expected to begin
in February 2011.
“We've seen little windows of performance with Michael, and those windows are becoming more frequent now. I think particularly in the last few races he's had particularly good races,” said Norbert.
It is easier to point out somebody else’s mistakes or put the blame entirely on others and Michael is doing the same thing. Mercedes is his team and he should help them if he wants his team to finish on top or otherwise, he will
be stuck with his team for another disappointing season.
