Michael Schumacher plays down title hope for 2011 season
The ever determined and optimistic Michael Schumacher plays down his chances of winning the 2011 title. While talking to the media earlier today, he predicted a strong season ahead of him, with a far more competitive car than the last one, but denied seeing
himself winning another title this year.
While talking to the reporters he stated, “I don’t think we are there yet. At Mercedes we know quite well where we stand. However, we don’t know where the others stand. I have a very good feeling. In 2010 I realized pretty soon after winter testing that
I won’t be able to challenge many drivers. Now I hope to have a car to drive at the top.”
The 42-year-old World Champion with his record seven titles, rejoined Formula 1 at the beginning of the 2010 season. However, the year was nothing more than sheer disappointment for his team and fans. After the abortive season, many believed that he will
not be seen on the grids again, but the driver not only chose to stay back in the series but also pronounced his goal of bagging another championship before his final farewell from Formula 1.
When asked by the reporters if he sees his dream of the 8th title coming true this year, he brushed off all hopes saying that this season is preparatory for the final battle next year. He insisted that he will revive his lost pace and form this
year, trying to finish as high as he can.
The German, after having stayed three years off the track, signed a three-year contract with Mercedes GP last season. 2011 season will be his last one with the sport. While his countless fans wait to see the usual wonders of the driver once again on the
track, he declared, that the season will be a tough one with five world champions on the grid with equal chances of grabbing the victory.
He believes that he will be a tough contender and will try to get as many podiums and race wins as he can, but claiming a championship might not be possible. Moreover, the driver commented on Fernando Alonso’s statement saying, “Fernando will be well aware
that things are getting better with us. It is quite realistic that he added Mercedes to the list (of title contenders).”
The two times World Champion stated earlier this week that the German is one of the toughest men on this season’s grid and portrays the worst threat for the title.
