Michael Schumacher praises compatriot Sebastian Vettel yet again
The seven times World Champion, Michael Schumacher lauded Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing on becoming the youngest title holder in the 60 years history of Formula One.
While talking to the media earlier today, Schumacher said, "I congratulated Seb just after the race, but I wanted to repeat my congratulations. His fighting spirit throughout the season and the way he played his trump card in the
last race is deserving of praise.”
The Red Bull driver won the last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, earlier this month. This race win not only granted him the first championship of his Formula One career but also made him the youngest champion of the
sport, a record that was earlier held by the McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton. Being only 23 year olds, Vettel still has a long career ahead of him and many expect to see another Schumacher in the making. Moreover, this victory makes him the only German racer
to have earned a World Championship after Schumacher.
While talking about his fellow countrymen this morning, the 41 year old driver said, "I bow to so much talent, persistence and his science of driving. We have been friends for many years and I am happy for him."
The Red Bull driver entered the last race of the season in 3rd place in the Driver’s Championship and his chances of bagging the title looked slim. The Ferrari driver and two times World Champion, Fernando Alonso topped
the charts, while the other Red Bull driver Mark Webber, held second place. However, as the last race-day of 2010 ended, Vettel was four points ahead of Alonso having bagged the 5th victory of the season while his teammate had to settle for 3rd
place in the Championship result.
While recalling the last race of the season, Schumacher said that Vettel put on a great racing display. On the other hand, the day unraveled very disappointingly for Schumacher, much like the rest of the season. In the very first
lap of the race his Mercedes GP took an ill fated spin, turning to face the oncoming traffic. The incident worsened when Tonio Luizzi drove over the car and parked his Force India right on top of Schumacher’s Mercedes, ending the race for both the drivers
in the very first minutes.
Although a very tough and disappointing season ended in even further disappointment, the racing icon is far from giving up. He is all prepared to enter next season with a renewed form and spirit.
